Virtual Workshop

A 2 hour workshop tailored specifically to both graduates and professionals working within the Social Care Sector who are considering a career change or further study. Alternative career paths atypical to the traditional social care setting will be discussed and further study opportunities.

About the event

This workshop is suitable for individuals working within the social care sector and who have a BA in Applied Social Studies, Youth Work or related degree. Places will be limited to 15 participants.

The workshop will include the following:

Postgraduate Study Opportunities

Opportunities for professional training eg Masters in Social Work, Guidance Counselling, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Counselling and Psychotherapy, Primary Teaching, Adult Teaching (PLC Colleges), Applied Behavioural Analysis.

Springboard courses will be discussed for complete career changes.

Public Sector

Government roles within the Public Sector which could allow you to still use your experience and knowledge within the sector to move into Housing, Social Welfare, Public Policy etc. Roles within County Councils will be discussed eg Dublin City Council etc

Career Moves

How to transition into other less client focused and roles that involve better working hours, conditions and a move away from the traditional residential sector, service based roles will be discussed.

There will be a big focus on employment roles within Education eg Third Level and Post Leaving Certificate Colleges where there is plenty of opportunities to work with students eg Student Support and Retention roles.

Other roles which will be covered eg Communication, Officer Roles, Advocacy Roles.

Tailoring your CV

The CV will prove crucial in helping you to make a career move. Tailoring your CV and making it specific to the role you are applying for will be discussed.

Using active langauge and how to demonstrate the value and impact you have had in previous roles will be explored. The CV is the tool that will allow you to move and change career direction.

There also will be a Q and A for participants. 

All participants will be required to complete a brief with some questions prior to the session, which will be related to their career history and experience within the sector. This will enable the workshop to be tailored specifically to the needs of the group.
